Life at a glance (1866–1955)
Matthew Henson was an African American explorer best known as the co-discoverer of the North Pole with Robert E. Peary's 1909 expedition. Henson's extensive knowledge of Arctic survival, his skills as a navigator, and his deep connection with the Inuit people proved invaluable during their treacherous journey. Henson's unwavering determination and resilience in the face of extreme cold and harsh conditions marked him as a trailblazer in the annals of polar exploration, and his achievements continue to inspire adventurers and explorers to this day.
