Program Description

Event Details

Daytime Docs is a monthly film series featuring documentaries that bring awareness to diverse perspectives and life experiences through the power of visual storytelling.

In honor of Iris Apfel, who passed away earlier this year at the age of 102, we’ll be showing Albert Maysles’ Iris (2015). This film is an in-depth look into the life of fashion icon Iris Apfel, and her husband of over 60 years: the quick-witted, flamboyantly dressed 93-year-old style maven with an outsized presence on the New York & Palm Beach fashion scenes. Despite the abundance of glamour in her current life, Iris continues to embrace the values and work ethic established during a middle-class Queens upbringing during the Great Depression.

Viewers are encouraged to stay after the screening to discuss the film. Then browse our Sights & Sounds collection to take home a few documentaries and films until our next screening! Or you can view this month's featured film through the Knox County Public Library's streaming platform, Kanopy.

Screenings will take place on every third Sunday of the month in the downstairs meeting room.
