Daytime Docs is a monthly film series featuring documentaries that bring awareness to diverse perspectives and life experiences through the power of visual storytelling.

For National Poetry Month, we’ll be screening Margreth Olin’s poetic and immersive film, Songs of Earth (2023). A majestic visual symphony with the filmmaker’s father as our guide, bringing us through a breathtaking journey of Norway’s most scenic valley. He grew up where generations have lived alongside nature to survive. The sounds of the earth harmonize in this breathtaking journey. Executive produced by Liv Ullmann and Wim Wenders. The New York Times critic Alissa Wilkinson writes, “It’s rare to see a film that feels not just poetic in nature, but like actual poetry. The rhythm and cadence, the imagery and metaphor, even the sense of movement and time that often accompany a great poem don’t translate easily to the screen...Margreth Olin somehow pulled it off — and in a documentary, no less.”

Viewers are encouraged to stay after the screening to discuss the film. Then browse our Sights & Sounds collection to take home a few documentaries and films until our next screening!
